[6 - Tip of the Month - More Help for Dealing with PDF Files]
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
While some PDF files have been copy protected by the author, preventing any
external use of the text, most PDF files are easy to work with. The first step
is to make sure you have version 6.0 or later of Adobe Reader. You can download
the free update of Adobe Reader from
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
Once installed, launch Adobe reader, then open your PDF file using File->Open.
You can quickly check the accessibility of the PDF file using
Document->Accessibility Quick Check on the Adobe main menu. This should warn
you if the PDF file has any accessibility problems. Assuming it doesn't, then
text from the PDF can be exported to a .txt file and then imported into
TextAloud.
>From the main menu in Adobe Reader, choose File->Save as Text. This will allow
you to save the contents of the PDF to a .txt file. Then you may import the
file into TextAloud using File->Open on the TextAloud main menu.
