Re: Just new at this?
Two other minor issues. My wife accidently hit some key with her left hand and completely wiped out all the phrases we had so carefully entered. There should be more safety against accidently doing that. (I have no idea what key she hit.) It should also come with word prediction. It cost me $200 for...

Re: Just new at this?
To follow up: Samsung was very fast in repairing their Netbook. I received the Netbook at my door within two weeks from the date I mailed it in for repair. They acknowledged the problem and gave me a newscreen. It works fine now. I was very impressed......On the wireless speaker, the issue I am tryi...

Re: Just new at this?
Most Netbooks are powerful enough to run speech software. The main limitations are that the screen is shorter in the vertical direction and the speakers are tiny. We have not found the screen size to be a problem with NextUp. The sound quality is poor on most laptops as well as netbooks but if you r...

Let me know if you have any specific questions. My wife has been using NextUp for about 8 months and is very happy with it.

Re: Just new at this?
You have the option of using Acapela voices with the full version. I think those are pretty good, certainly better than the default. However, NextUp does charge extra for that option. Those voices allow adjustment of speed and pitch. How long the pause is between words and phrases is in one of the N...

Re: Just new at this?
NextUp Talker will work on almost any laptop or netbook PC. An external speaker generally provides better clarity and volume. I use a Samsung NC10 netbook (about $380) and a tritton speaker (about $30.) Two optional additions are an external CD-ROM drive (ASUS about $65), and Word Prediction softwar...

Re: Cisco IP Communicator VOIP
The driver for USB audio is part of Windows XP. I had to plug my USB speaker in and out about 3 times before Windows recognized it, but since then it has worked fine. Which version of Windows are you using and do have all the updates?

Re: voice output directly to a cordless/cell phone?
I am a retired enginner and making such an adapter would be fairly easy. But I wonder what the advantage would be? I find having the microphone pick up an external laptop speaker works very well as discussed in a previous post. If people have ideas on simple devices such this adpater I can look into...

Another good speaker for laptops is the Tritton Model TRI-UA212. Also USB powered and one piece construction. It sells for about $30 at Newegg. (Originally posted in Sept 3, 2009 thread.)

Re: Talker - Skype and Multi-Channel Voice
I have a Samsung NC10 netbook. When I use an external USB speaker (Tritton mentioned in previous post) the laptop mic picks up the output of Talker very clearly. So I can talk or use Talker without any hardware or software modifications. Interestingly, this will not work with the built in netbook sp...

Re: Small Laptops and Speakers
I also just tried out the demo version of the one below. Overall I think it is easier to use with Talker, but it costs $300. Its worth trying the demo version and see if the added convenience is worth it for you.
