Re: Foxit Plugin

<i>Because let's face it, the TA app itself is not suited for reading eBooks </i> I would also like a toolbar for reading PDF docs, mainly because converting complicated PDFs to WORD can sometimes give 'odd results'. I find that the WORD toolbar itself, when combined with the tools available in WORD...

Re: Making TextAloud more productive

As I'm finding the Microsoft policy of blocking transfer of office software between machines very irritating, especially as it is so expensive. A TextAloud toolbar for the free Open Office software would be very attractive. Is it available or on the radar yet? I would be happy to pay for this enhanc...

Re: TA version 4? - include support for IPA and X-Sampa

Might I suggest adding support for IPA and X-SAMPA in version 4. Several on-line dictionaries give pronunciations in terms of these phonemes which could be very useful for tricky pronunciations. I believe that Ivona already includes this in their reader and it would be a great addition to TA.

Re: Mixed Text & Image Results

Hi Gtarr, As a long time user of TA3 I often convert text with images to Word Documents when the reading tool bar is very good. You can pause it to study the images. With complicated PDF docs I like to use the mouse watch option. Highlighting the text causes it to be read by TA3. I'm sure that Nextu...

Re: Problem with 'Edit => Replace'

Thanks Jim, that works nicely now. There still seems to be a problem with the case sensitive option though: When case sensitive is not ticked then 'Find Next' works but 'Replace' does not work correctly. For example Text to find: bow Replace With: bo Text: Bow and arrow. bow to me Clicking Next high...

Problem with 'Edit => Replace'

I sometimes use Edit => Replace for pre-processing text for homonym pronunciation and find a problem: After completing 'Text to Find' and 'Replace With' then clicking 'Find Next' and 'Replace' I find that the target word has been deleted. After cancelling and making the correction by hand and settin...

Re: File Name

Why not use the file splitter utility to split the text file. I find that splitting a book by chapters is usually convenient.
You can then use batch conversion on the split file to generate the audio. Each mp3 corresponds to a specific chapter so it's easy to trace errors.

Mouse Watch and Adobe Reader X

The 'mouse watch' function is valuable for reading selected text in complicated documents with graphs and diagrams. The function works in most cases but seems to fail with PDF documents viewed with Adobe Reader 10. The alternative Foxit Reader 5.1 works but the text selection tool will only highligh...

Re: Possible voice conflict or bug?

This problem was caused by scanning software, associated with a Seagate external backup drive, hogging resources. Disabling the scanning from the start-up menu rectified the problem. Seagate helpfully commented that the scanning doesn't have to be run continuously and can just be turned on when the ...

toolbars for email

After moving to Windows 7 I find that my cherished outlook express is no longer available! I have switched to Mozilla Thunderbird which is close to outlook express in appearance and operation and would greatly appreciate a TA3 toolbar for reading messages. Is a suitable toolbar for a free email clie...

Possible voice conflict or bug?

I have a problem with Acapella and Ivona voices in that both become 'jerky' with incorrect pauses and occasional brief 'buzzing' noises. I have reinstalled TA3 (3.0.26) and reinstalled the voices. This seemed to help, but after rebooting the computer, the problem recurs. I find that selecting a voic...

WORD toolbar suggestions

I frequently convert PDF e-books to WORD for the convenience of reading documents containing illustrations, equations, and footnotes. To avoid disrupting the flow by reading footnotes and equations I often manually wrap them with comment tags {{// ....}} Then to read a footnote I highlight and 'read...

Re: Word 2007 Toolbar Glitches

Another glitch arises with text boxes. TA3 seems to simply ignore them.

I think this was working OK in an early version in the beta phase but needs looking at again.

I'm using WORD 2007 with Windows XP

Re: Updated Firefox Toolbar

The tool bar with word highlighting is working well for me with Windows XP.

It would be great if auto-scrolling could be introduced though, as with IE.
I like to sit way back from the screen to listen without using the mouse to scroll the screen.

This would be very nice, but not urgent.

Re: Making TextAloud more productive

I find the TA toolbar for Microsoft Word invaluable for this sort of thing.
It probably doesn't work for Open Office though.
