First check to make sure all TextAloud speaking rules and pronunciation dictionaries are disabled, just to make sure the some TextAloud configuration setting is not adding the pause. The batch file converter works pretty much articles to audio files from the TextAloud main window using the To File button. So you can create an audio file using multiple voices only if the source file contains TextAloud voice change tags.

There is an update to fix Microsoft Word highlighting issues in TextAloud 4.0.55.2, at https://nextup.com/files/ta4.exe. If you see any other highlighting issues in the Word addon try installing this update.

It is odd that you're seeing the problem with every color, there is something else we're missing. Is it possible for you to email me a sample document where you're able to duplicate the issue using a color other than black? If you're able to send a sample, send it to me at jim@nextup.com

It sounds like you have run across a bug in the highlighting code. If you happen to be using black as the highlighting color, can you try using a different color and see if that makes any difference? You could set up a TextAloud hotkey to read selected text, then use the hotkey to speak highlighted text in your browser. Best way to start off is to send a TextAloud problem report. From the TextAloud main menu click Help -> Support -> Report A Problem. In the problem report text, let me know which browser extensions you're having trouble with. Logs in the problem report may give me an idea of what is happening.
