How to backup and restore TextAloud Articles

Post by Jim Bretti »

We are commonly asked how to copy articles from one machine to another (where TextAloud is installed on both machines). The most common case is that TextAloud has just been installed on a new machine, and lots of articles are currently in TextAloud, on the old machine.

There is currently no article synchronization, or import/export capability, but here is how to copy articles manually.

On the old machine, run TextAloud, and from the Help menu, click "Open Data Folder". In the data folder, locate the two folders named "Articles" and "Archive" and make copies of these two folders.

On the new machine, run TextAloud, and click Help -> Open Data Folder. Exit TextAloud at this point, leaving the data folder open. Replace the Articles and Archive folders in the data folder on the new system with folders you copied from the old system.

When you start TextAloud on the new system, your TextAloud Articles / Archive should match the old system.

Note that If you have pronunciation dictionaries created on the old machine, you can copy them to the new machine using exactly the same process. Just include the Dictionaries folder when copying / restoring the Articles and Archive folders.
