TextAloud processes clipboard text multiple times

Post by Jim Bretti »

Occasionally when TextAloud is monitoring the Windows clipboard, you may notice that TextAloud displays the clipboard notification prompt when nothing has been copied to the clipboard. If you have TextAloud configured to speak text on the clipboard automatically, you may hear text repeated.

This problem is generally the result of some applications updating the Windows clipboard at unpredictable times. For example, when an application loses focus or is closed, it may update the Windows clipboard. TextAloud is not able to distinguish these clipboard updates from the usual 'Ctrl+C' updates.

There is a clipboard setting in TextAloud that helps with working around this problem. From the TextAloud menu, click Tools -> General Options -> Clipboard and Mouse Speak Options. On the Clipboard tab, near the top, you'll see a checkbox labeled "Ignore Clipboard Updates if text has not changed". Selecting this checkbox normally helps with the problem.
