Sam, Mike and Speakonia voices dont work

Post by ttsguy »

They are silent. They don't work in the actual Speakonia software as well. Anna does work, for some reason.

All my other voices work (Lo quendo and Ivona voices one)

Please let me get Sam, Mike and American male etc from Speakonia ones working.

Im on Windows 7 64bit all updated.

Thanks.

Go to voice option in tools and check Sapi Version, if it shows use sapi5 then change to use both and you should be able to use all voices.

If you see Anna on your system, you're probably running either Windows Vista or Windows 7. The Sapi5 versions of Microsoft Mary, Mike, and Sam most likely do not work on Windows Vista and later. See the post at viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3605 for more details. The post specifically mentions Windows Vista, but I'm pretty sure these Sapi5 voices don't work on any Windows versions later than XP.

I'm traveling this week and won't be able to look at this until I'm back in the office next week.

Sorry about the problem and the delay

The SAPI4 version of Microsoft's voices definitely work within TextAloud. I installed and tested them in TA today on my Windows 7 computer. The voices can be downloaded from Microsoft's site here:
http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/co ... msttsl.exe
This installer will install extras you might not need like Mary in space, Mike in hall etc. Before installing the voices, you may also need to install the SAPI4 runtime if you have never installed any SAPI4 voices on your computer before. If needed in addition to the voices, you can download the SAPI4 runtime here:
http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/co ... pchapi.exe

Try the links at the original post where the links were bad: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3605. I update the links at that page, they should work now.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. When I open Text Aloud 3 and try the voices, only Anna works, the rest are silent.

TTSGuy, Did you install both the SAPI4 voices and the runtime? The runtime spchapi.exe needs to be installed along with the voices. Unfortunately, I discovered tonight that the links I previously posted to download the voices and runtime from Microsoft no longer function. I don't know if Jim has a copy of spchapi.exe which could perhaps be hosted on a Nextup-owned site. In the meantime, here's a link to download the SAPI4 runtime from a talking Bible site.

Not sure why the Sapi4 voices wouldn't be working for you, it may help if I could see a problem report from your system. From the TextAloud menu click Help -> Support -> Report A Problem. Just reference this issue in the problem report text. I'll take a look and see what I can find
