Navigable Table of Contents for epub files?

Post by PaulM »

Hi:

In Balabolka, when it converts an epub file it generates a navigable table of contents from the epub file which can be accessed from Balabolka's 'Insert Named Bookmark' icon at the top of the Balabolka window or, from the menu, Bookmarks - Go to Named Bookmark... (F2).

Does Text Aloud generate a navigable table of contents from the epub file it converts and/or can it be configured to do so? If yes, how to access it, and/or configure Text Aloud to generate the navigable table of contents for an epub file?

Thanks,

Paul

We'll investigate creating named bookmarks for chapter titles in a future update, I think we should be able to do that. Currently the only way to get a navigable table of contents for an epub is to use the option under the View menu to display article titles on the left, and use the File Splitter utility (under the Control Center menu) to import the epub document.

In the File Splitter utility, set the dropdown "Write Split Text To" to "TextAloud Articles", and the "Split Method" dropdown to "Split By Chapter".

When you split the epub like this TextAloud should create an article for each chapter, using the chapter as the article title. You'll be able to navigate the text from the list of article titles.

Hi Jim:

Actually, upon further investigation, Balabolka doesn't do a very good job of creating an accurate table of contents; at least, not a table of contents matching the table of contents found in the epub file. Text Aloud's File Splitter appears to generate a table of contents matching the epub file, however.
