TA 4.0.17 skips some words

Its possible that updating to the current version could make a difference. Try updating to version 4.0.59 using the installer at https://nextup.com/files/ta4.exe and see if that makes a difference.

If updating doesn't help, duplicate the issue, then from the TextAloud menu send a TextAloud problem report. From the menu click Help -> Support -> Report A Problem and just mention this issue briefly in the problem report text.
