If you see the error "OLE error 80040247" with AT&T Natural Voices, the most likely problem is that a virus scanner is interfering with an AT&T program that runs in the background on your system. The name of the background program is nvdesktopproxy.exe, and it seems that anything that delays the startup of this program will result in this error.

If this is happening on your system, the solution is typically to configure your virus scanner / anti spyware to exclude some AT&T directories from scanning. Unless you change the default install folder, AT&T voices will install in the folder C:\Program Files\ATTNaturalVoices on 32 bit versions of Windows, and C:\Program Files (x86)\ATTNaturalVoices on 64 bit versions of Windows. If you need to specifically exclude the background program from scanning, nvdesktopproxy.exe is located in the folder C:\Program Files\ATTNaturalVoices\TTS1.4\Desktop\bin on 32 bit windows, and C:\Program Files (x86)\ATTNaturalVoices\TTS1.4\Desktop\bin on 64 bit windows.

It may be helpful to run Windows Task Manager when this problem happens, that should give you an idea of exactly what programs are using the cpu at the time at the time of the error, and may point you at exactly which program(s) on your system could be interfering with nvdesktopproxy.
