We need to change "Delete Current Article" to "Close Article"

Post by sulu »

The "Delete Current Article" command on the context menu of the left-hand navigation pane should be changed to "Close Article". The reason is, we are not actually deleting the file from the file system and the current wording makes it appear that the file is being deleted permanently.

Steps:
(1) I have several text files open in the TextAloud desktop application.
(2) I no longer have the need for one of the files to be displayed.
(3) I right-click on the title of the article I wish to close.
(4) The Delete Current Article command is displayed among other commands.

Since I am just closing the article (not displaying it anymore), I feel the command should say "Close"

In general, TextAloud articles are created from multiple sources, not just documents. Text can be pasted in the article, imported from extensions / add-ons, created from system-wide hotkeys, and so on. 'Delete' actually does delete an article, optionally storing the deleted article in an archive to restore later if needed.

So depending on your usage, it may behave like a Close button, but in general, once you 'delete' an article, you cannot always reopen it. You can however unarchive it. It is one of the reasons we use "Delete Current Article" as a caption, and not just "Delete".

We will add this to our list to look at, I do understand the concern.
