Phonemes - Phonetics ?

Post by Hannes »

Can someone please give an example of how to properly program the phonetics in TextAloud?
Until now I notice two important parts.
1. Long letters.
2. Special emphasis on the letters.

Armageddon - ar ma gEddon
Reinkarnation - rEE in karnation
Kadaver - ka dAA ver
Michael - mi cha EEl
Carmen - cAAr men
Martina - mar tII na

Maybe you understand what I mean ?!

TextAloud > Directionary > Phonemes

(I can speak English poorly, please forgive)

I found the following important websites. This raises new questions.
viewtopic.php?t=5595
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SAMPA

As a result, SAMPA is the most advanced and fitting system.

The forum says:
viewtopic.php?t=5595

TextAloud Advanced Pronunciation Editor supports DARPA phonetic alphabet (Options->Pronunciation Editor->Advanced Editing)

Is that still the case in version 4?

Acapela, Ivona, ... german

Could you let me know which voices you're using (Acapela, Nuance, etc) and also which language(s) ?

Thanks

Neither Acapela nor Ivona support Sapi5 phoneme pronunciation corrections as we have currently implemented in TextAloud.

The best way to handle phoneme corrections with Acapela voices is to use the dictionary utility we distribute with Acapela voices. Check for a doc folder under the Acapela voice install folder, the install folder defaults to c:\Program Files (x86)\NextUp-Acapela Multimedia. The doc folder should contain a file named PronunciationEditorManual.pdf, along with a manual for each language installed. The pronunciation editor manual has instructions on using the Acapela dictionary utility, the language specific documents contain information on changing pronunciations for individual languages.

For Ivona voices, there is documentation at http://nextup.com/files/phonemeswithivona.pdf with instructions on how to handle phoneme pronunciation corrections.

It will be advisable to use the future language SAMPA in the program TextAloud, if you recognize what is in Wikipedia and you think of the users of the program.

I need to update the Ivona document to indicate you can use x-sampa as the alphabet. For example:

I say, <phoneme alphabet="x-sampa" ph="pi:kA:n">pecan</phoneme>.
You say, <phoneme alphabet="x-sampa" ph="pi:"k{n">pecan</phoneme>

So for Ivona voices, you could create a TextAloud pronunciation dictionary entry that respells the word pecan as <phoneme alphabet="x-sampa" ph="pi:kA:n"/>

One thing to watch for is that characters like double quote inside the tag need to be written as "

I'll update the document to indicate you can use either ipa or x-sampa alphabets in the tags.

Grat!

Would it also be possible to program the program as a portable variant? So without setup?

We do not have a portable version at this time but it is on our list to look at, we may have a portable version in the future.

It will be a good idea if all those who use the newly created program help to create a phonetic lexicon which can be added to the voice in thousands of words. Jeses single word, which had to be changed to make the pronunciation more correct, it is there to collect.
