CLEMMONS, NC - Emile Stuiver knows a little something about magic. The Groningen, Netherlands resident isn't just a full-time software engineer, he also has a hobby as a professional magician. However, maintaining a heavy workload left little time for magic, so Stuiver actively began to seek out solutions that might allow him to listen to his computer science and other technical studies while practicing his tricks. He soon discovered the easy to use Text to Speech (TTS) program TextAloud, from NextUp Technologies (http://www.Nextup.com).

Downloading and installing in just minutes, TextAloud is a PC program that enables computer users everywhere to easily listen to their reading - from websites and e-mails, to eBooks and scanned text of all kinds - as natural (and non-robotic) human-sounding speech, instead. As Emile discovered, the program's speech files easily export to sound files that can be listened to virtually anywhere, from the computer to CD, iPod, iPhone or other portable device, on the go.

"By listening to my work-related reading with TextAloud, for the first time I was able to increase my available time at home," comments Emile. He also found it fun to listen to magic-related content, theories, tricks and interviews while doing other things as well.

"With so little time to myself, I was bored and stressed by having to read text visually," he comments. "I was continuously aware of what a time-consuming activity it was, especially in today's world, when there never seems to be enough time. TextAloud allowed me to do two important things at the same time, and it is a marvelous solution, effectively doubling my available free time -- at home and at work."

Once he began doing his reading by ear instead, Emile began to notice other benefits in addition to the time saved. "I began to notice that after using TextAloud for a long time, that even while doing other things at the same time, I actually seemed to 'digest' and remember the information better than before." Emile found that his previous visual reading approaches had actually led to poor retention, while listening to the same content via spoken voice using TextAloud, he was even able to practice his magic tricks and yet still actually improve his absorption and retention of the information. "Perhaps because it's easier and more fun -- you really seem to be more engaged into the information, and more able to fall into a sort of flow," he comments.

"My favorite aspect of TextAloud is the fact that you can export the spoken text to audio files and take them with you," he adds. "I also really like the fact that I can achieve spoken text simply by highlighting what I want to hear." Emile also uses the program's keyboard short cuts to skip text, or to go forward or back in the text, as needed.

Emile has now become a believer in multitasking, "especially for anyone doing something creative or artistic," he comments. "It turns out that two things can truly be done together in a perfectly combinable way. Now I can learn and enjoy so many more things at the same time, and my work is not as time-consuming as it was before." Ultimately, by turning to Text to Speech as a multitasking solution, Emile has been able to combine work and leisure in a unique new way that's downright… magical.
